What’s involved in the Dive Master Course?

PADI Divemaster Training Koh-TaoAsia Divers, where Koh Tao IDC conducts it’s IDC and Divemaster training, is a PADI 5-Star Dive Resort, which means that all of our courses, including the Divemaster course, are run strictly to the specifications set by PADI. The divemaster course at Koh Tao IDC focuses not only on increasing your diving theory, but also on sharpening your in-water skills and general capabilities as a diver. Furthermore, in addition to classroom or swimming pool based lessons and practical sessions, you will also gain valuable hands-on experience by assisting our team of experienced Instructors on Open Water, Advanced Open Water and Rescue courses.

Divemaster Training Qualifications

To qualify as a Divemaster you must:

  • be able to swim 400m
  • be able to snorkel for 800m
  • be able to tow a diver for 100m
  • be able to float for 15 minutes
  • perform a “skills circuit” (demonstrate 20 underwater skills)
  • assist on a range of Instructor-led courses
  • deliver an open water dive briefing, then lead the dive yourself
  • teach a Scuba Review
  • prepare a map of a local dive site
  • exchange equipment with another diver while buddy breathing underwater
  • pass all Divemaster theory exams
  • have 60 logged dives

PADI Go Pro Divemaster TrainingThere is a great social atmosphere during the course as there is never a shortage of Divemaster trainees. You will find that no matter who you are or what your background is, you will always find plenty of like-minded fellow divers among us – whether it’s new students, fun divers, Instructors or your Divemaster trainee buddies.

Divemaster Course Prerequisites

To begin the Divemaster course you must:

  • hold a PADI Rescue Diver certification (or equivalent)
  • have a minimum of 20 logged dives
  • hold an EFR certification (or Equivalent) not older than 24 month

 

How Long does the Divemaster Course Take?

If you’re short on time, the ‘quick’ version of the Divemaster course on Koh Tao can be completed in as little as 2 weeks! Therefore you need to start the course as a Rescue Diver and with enough logged dives.

However, if you have time on your hands, you may want to choose the Divemaster internship option, which will maximize your training experience – making you a more skilled (and more marketable) PADI Divemaster. Choosing this option allows you all the time you need – whether it’s six weeks or six months. You are also entitled to dive as much as you like during the program – at no extra cost!
