Additional Diving Instructor Courses on Koh Tao

Once you are certified as an Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) you might want to take it a notch further and add some specialty instructor courses to your program. Specialty instructor certifications will greatly improve your chances of getting employed faster. Here at Koh Tao IDC, we make it easy for you to achieve a few specialty instructor certifications on the fly! During the period of your diving instructor training, we offer a one day PADI EFR Instructor course for starters. While the training is not a mandatory part of the IDC, we highly recommend our IDC candidates to complete the PADI EFRI course so that they are qualified to instruct EFR courses in addition to the standard OWSI diving courses. Having a EFRI certification will improve your chances of finding employment as a diving instructor everywhere you go!

What Next?

Now that you’ve become an Open Water Scuba Instructor, I’m pretty sure you’re not the kind of person to rest on your laurels and you want to go further! There are many other rungs to be climbed on the PADI professional ladder, each of them offering you more opportunities, a greater variety of experiences, and will be making you even more marketable.

Nitrox Instructor Course

Two days after the Instructor examination (IE), we run a Nitrox (EANx) instructor course. Of all the Specialty courses available to divers, Nitrox is one of the most popular – so becoming a Nitrox Instructor is highly recommended.

MSDT: Diving Instructor Internship

Becoming a Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) is the goal of most newly qualified Instructors as it greatly improves their marketability.

To apply for the MSDT rating, an Instructor must:

• Be certified as a PADI Specialty Instructor in at least 5 specialty areas
• Have certified at least 25 student divers

Anyone new to a profession will have the same question: “How do I get my first job without the necessary experience?”

The toughest obstacle to obtaining the MSDT rating is getting these first 25 certifications! Most dive schools around the world will require experience when hiring new diving instructors. To help newly qualified Instructors, we offer an MSDT Instructor Internship to help you through the initial stages of your Instructor career. And no worries we won’t let you pass the IDC and throw you into the cold water! Scuba diving is the one profession where you don’t have to enter the job market without experience.

The Diving Instructor Internship program at Koh Tao IDC provides newly certified Instructors the opportunity to teach a range of diving courses under the direction of on of our experienced Instructors. During this Internship you will be able to certify at least 25 divers yourself, supplementing the knowledge and skills you gained during your PADI IDC with valuable practical experience. Additionally, you will gain additional expertise and specialty ratings in five specialty areas of your choice.
 

Having the MSDT rating will equip you with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience – not to mention confidence – to successfully compete for Work as a Scuba Diving Instructor!

PADI Specialty Instructor

PADI offers a number of specialty courses, which are build on the special-interest areas covered in the PADI Adventure Dives. The most popular specialties are Nitrox (EANx), Underwater Photography, Underwater Videography, Deep Diving and Wreck Diving.

As a Specialty Instructor, you are able to teach a greater range of courses, and as a result the student diver market available to you is that much larger.

Staff Instructor

A PADI Staff Instructor assists the course director in training new diving instructors during the duration of the IDC. PADI Staff Instructor is an immensely rewarding occupation, giving you the opportunity to work with experienced, professional divers furthering their careers while even gaining more experience yourself. The Staff Instructor Certification is a prerequisite if you’re thinking about going all the way and become a PADI Course Director.
